7 New Wonders of Nature

Let's put the Philippines back on the map. Please vote for our country's more-than-the-usual destinations to be at least one of the 7 New Wonders of Nature. Our country is nominated for the following natural wonders:

  • Chocolate Hills - An unusual geological formation in Bohol, Philippines. It is composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills of about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (19 sq mi). They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name.*
  • Mayon Volcano - An active volcano in the Philippines on the island of Luzon, in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region. Its almost perfectly-shaped cone is considered by some to be the Philippine equivalent of Mount Fuji in Japan. Like other volcanoes located around the rim of the Pacific Ocean, Mayon is a part of the "Pacific Ring of Fire".*
  • Tubbataha Reef - Declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on December 1993, Tubbataha Reef is an atoll coral reef located in the Sulu Sea, 98 nautical miles (181 km) southeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, the Philippines. It is a marine sanctuary protected as Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park.*

Voting details for New7Wonders of Nature nominees: You have one voice, but seven votes. You must select 7 different nominees. So I suggest that after you vote for the 3 sites in our country, your remaining 4 votes should be for the least popular sites so that we have a greater chance of being chosen.

Voting for nominees will continue until December 31st 2008. A New7Wonders Panel of Experts will then select the 21 finalists, from which voters worldwide will elect the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
